Seattle to Kalispell, MT – Sept 13-18

18 Sep

We left the Seattle area on Monday morning, beginning our cross-country adventure.  We’re planning on driving across US Route 2, the Great Northern Highway to the east coast.  From there, we’ll head south.

The last 6 days have been a mixed bag.  We drove across beautiful mountain ranges and valleys.  Along the way, we visited with local folks, including George and Don, a couple of retired guys who prospect for gold in the eastern Washington mountains.  And, yes, George did show us some of his gold.

The last several days we’ve been in Kalispell, Montana, near Glacier National Park.  The weather has been cold, dark and rainy.  We’ve been busy rearranging our clothing and VW storage.  And, as fate would have it, the VW had some minor problems that our friends at Loren’s Auto fixed . . . just as they fixed a major VW problem when we passed through these here parts in 2006.  We’ve been doing some housekeeping, electronic problems, paying bills, and other distracting necessities of life.  The Going To The Sun Road through Glacier National Park has reopened after the weather cleared and, yes, the snow plowed.  Tomorrow, back on the road – the town of Whitefish and Glacier . . . Yeah!
